Providing healthy school lunches just got easier!  Michigan’s innovative 10 Cents a Meal for Michigan’s Kids & Farm program provides schools, early childhood education centers, and other organizations participating in USDA Child Nutrition programs with match incentive funding up to 10 cents per meal to purchase and serve Michigan-grown fruits, vegetables, and legumes.  Find out how the 10 Cents a Meal program works, how it is currently being implemented across Michigan, and opportunities for expanding the program in the Western UP!

Presenter Melanie Wong MA, RDN is a Registered Dietitian and the Farm to Early Care and Education Specialist with Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities who works to support Michigan’s local food incentive program, 10 Cents a Meal for Michigan’s Kids & Farms with communications and outreach support. She is passionate about helping our youngest eaters connect with and love food for their health and enjoyment. Melanie attended Michigan State University receiving her undergraduate degree in Dietetics and a minor in Sustainable Agriculture and Foods Systems. She also holds a Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences specializing in Dietetics from Western Michigan University.  When she is not thinking about, talking about, or eating food, you can find her dancing, cooking, or watching anime.
