Forum, Do You Need a Will or a Trust?

Speaker:

Kathryn Larlee, a lawyer with Legal Services of Northern Michigan, Inc will explain the difference between a will and a trust and define a ladybird deed. She’ll provide guidance on planning for medical decision-making and financial power of attorney, including the impact of new laws recently passed in Michigan.  She will also discuss the status of unmarried partners.

Larlee grew up in Maine. She started her career as a DJ at a local radio station, working there for eight years before deciding to pursue a degree in theatre. She went on to complete a Master of Fine Arts in Playwriting.  After teaching theatre for 17 years as an adjunct professor in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she once again chose a new career path. At age 52, she decided to go to law school at Michigan State University. While in law school, Larlee visited the UP and fell in love with Lake Superior.  After graduating, she worked at Elder Law of Michigan for three years before accepting her current position at Legal Services of Northern Michigan in 2017.
