A Reporter’s Odyssey
Over the course of decades, traditional local news operations have been wrung dry. New models of journalism, including nonprofits, offer sustainability for community journalism that gives even tiny communities the possibility of deeply researched and socially-responsible news. Joshua Vissers will walk through several of the pressures that keep traditional, for-profit models from producing high-quality journalism whereas nonprofits can reverse them. Mr. Vissers will share some of his experiences .
Biographical:
Joshua Vissers is a journalist based in Houghton County, Michigan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in multimedia journalism from Grand Valley State University. He completed his internship with the West Michigan Environmental Action Council in 2018 and is a freelance member of the Michigan Press Association, the Center for Collaborative Investigative Journalism, and Investigative Reporters and Editors.
