Myths We Live By (or according to my mother who constantly corrected my grammar, Myths By Which We Live) – reflections on Resolution 25-031 that was on the agenda at the Houghton County Commission meeting on December 9: “To declare there are only two sexes.”
Some of the thought behind this reflection is based on Daniel Quinn’s book Ishmael, An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit. Copyright 1992, winner of the Turner Tomorrow Fellowship, this Socratic discussion on myths we live by is a discussion between a gorilla (Ishmael) and a guy.
Service will be in person and on Zoom.

If the talk on January 18 sparks your interest, I am willing to lead a three part discussion on the book. I was so intrigued by the ideas presented that I figured out a way to assign it in nearly every Religion class I taught at both Suomi College / Finlandia University and Michigan Tech.
Let’s plan to meet three times for book discussion after fellowship time on three Sundays: January 25, February 1 & 15.
Check locally for copies before going online as it may be available, and KUUF will order some copies. Our discussion will be divided this way:
First meeting: Sections 1-5
Second meeting: Sections 6-8; also read Genesis 1-4, 16-17
Third meeting: Sections 9ff
